Looking for new assistant system admin

Post by JohnBG » Fri Feb 15, 2019 11:00 am

Fellow Steeds,

I may not be ready to pass the torch just yet, but I am considering bringing on a new assistant system admin. I apologize, between work and life, I have been super busy and mostly an absentee landlord.

There's a lot of grumbling about an issue with pictures uploading lately. Honestly, I've never seen so many people complain about a free service, but that's beside the point.

I've been doing this as a labor of love for 12 years and maybe it's time to bring in some fresh blood.

If anyone has an interest, ping me, but an ideal candidate would be as follows:

- Keen interest in Urals/Dneprs. Passionate about them...
- experience managing a forums site
- programming experience with php and SQL.
- 5-10 hours per week to spend here.

Thanks for all of your support and understanding.

Unfortunately John, I am only semi qualified for the first bullet (Ural). After that, squat.

Hopefully, this will resolve itself in short order - we all have so much to learn through this forum.

Thank you for your service to all of us with this affliction/addiction called Ural - best of luck in your balancing act.....Matt

No complaints, only thanks.
The "programming" part is over my pinhead. Recently tried my hand at it with a drone which included basically a children's program to teach. Well, it crashed. Can't imagine "crashing" this site on top of the multiple pictures controversy. I'd be tarred & feathered.

I love what you've built, but I know it can be better and, though I can't code, I stand (well, sit... at a computer) ready to throw money at the problem, if necessary, to help improve the user experience.

John BG, I will gladly step up to the plate, but my computer skills are limited (no programming skills). Let me know if I can assist. I am fully retired now so time is really not an issue.

Me, I just did what you said and I got the post with a picture in fine.

-Yes. I paid MSRP in cash for a new 2018, after following the brand for 13 years. Passion, or stupidity. Not sure yet. Full disclosure: I don't have the mechanical chops of someone like gobium, in case this is one of your metrics.
-Not yet. If "managing" means moderation, I'm willing and able to share the load.
-None, unfortunately.
-Yes. Easily. I'm retired and ready to help.

Thanks.

How much SQL experience do you need?

I am a current Information Technology college student and I have taken a course in SQL and done some small bits of PHP (though I have done a good bit of HTML.) I don't know if I'm qualified or not, it depends on what you're looking for.
