Not a normal UDF parking lot conversation

Post by codemonkey001 » Sun Dec 23, 2018 7:37 pm

Normal UDF parking lot conversation:

Random person: What is that thing?
Me: <begins recitation of history of Ural, from the BMW R71 on>

Not a normal UDF parking lot conversation:
Random person: Where do you get your Ural serviced?
Me: Um...do most of it myself; haven't needed anything major yet. Planned on going to BBK if that happened but I heard they're closing.
RP: That's too bad. Going to have to go to Dave down in St Louis? (note: we're equidistant from Chicago and St Louis) THat looks like his.
Me: Well, now that you mention it, it was his two owners ago.
RP's wife: I haven't seen Hippo Hands in years. I used to sew them for Craig Vetter.

It's rare to find people that recognize the bike, let alone know them so well. They weren't even owners.

She might be in this shot. Hippo Hands are one of the best things Vetter made, nothing compares to them.

It's entirely possible this was her. Same hairstyle, even (although it's all white now).

I have no idea where chaos2 got the photo, but Rantoul makes sense;.that's where Vetter Fairings started and I'm about 40 moles from there, so running into a former employee at the local grocery store fits the available facts.

So is Vetter still around? I see them selling some stuff like decals and parts for the old vetter fairings.

Found this about him. Apparently had a major accident with a deer in 2015 and has been recovering since.

I was thinking I’d have fit in that picture then. Semi hippie, 20, married (still am), skinny, had all my hair...
