It's the 14V, 35A, 500W Ural-made "grenade" alternator, part number 14.3771, installed on Urals from about 1998 - 2004.

Hi Chad ;

No, I don't think it is as it has the BOSCH copied combination brush holder and voltage regulator .

My '94 & '96 alternators don't have this internal voltage regulator, a good thing to have IMO .

As far as 'grenade' ~ I think that's because they were improperly adjusted by most Urialistas ~ when you take the time to check the gear mesh in many different prositions and adjust to ensure no tighter than .004", it's fairly noisy .

I know Ural Dealers and most OnLine tech advisors all said to adjust the alternator with the engine running, twist until the gears were silent (!) the only way they're ever silent is if there's zero lash , a very bad thing indeed .

I've had three of them fail electronically but never had any break, I firmly believe it's because I took the time to properly adjust the gear lash .

If I ever get one of my early Urals going again I'd be keen to get one of these internally regulated alternators .

I see you ignored my point thatit's clearly -not- that as the grenade alternators use an external votage regulator that's not very reliable, why I'm so interested in this internally regulated one .

Well, fellahs, it's done. If you look on page 1 of this thread, you'll see that it was exactly one year ago today that I purchased this RPOC, and I completed it's "reinvigoration" in exactly one year.

It's been quite the journey with you all; a real rollercoaster of emotion. Lots of false starts, dead-ends, and maintenance trickery, BUT the rewards were well worth the sweat equity invested.

Now it's time to move on to the next project...

Congratulations. It seemed to come together very quickly at the end. Nothing about struggling with the wiring harness. What about the engine and transmission? A terrific effort.
