Today just got back from Nashville Tn. On December 26 meet up with 3 other sidecar drivers in Natchez Ms. to ride the Trace to Nashville. Had severe weather the first day. Temperatures from 60 to high 30,s. Rain all day yesterday and severe as we passed through the front.

Went for a new years day ride yesterday, mix of errands and pleasure temps in the low 50's dropping to the 40's. It was good to get out.
For the locals, went from Woburn to Billerica, meandered the side roads to Ipswich and came home down the coast, rte 122 to Essex to rte.62 and a few more side roads home.

CrankyTom, that area is great for a slow ride through the "country". I grew up in Essex and visit as often as I can. If I had a place to keep my rig locally I surely would have been out on the road to the North Shore.

Yeah, that area was #1 to me and my riding buddies back in the 70's,in particular rte. 127 around Cape Anne. Not as good these days in the summer, tends to get awfully crowded with the beach crowd.Really scenic though.

Had a great 100K ride. This thing is so much slower than my GSA, doesn’t handle nearly as well. Rougher ride. But I’m having a blast with it. I think I’m going to put a small windshield on. Got to do some homework on that. I don’t know if it’s just being “different” or what, but it sure is fun to ride.

On the way home from work Monday night some idiot on her cell phone decided to try and make me her hood ornament. Knocked me into a car in the adjacent lane. Thankfully I wan't hurt too bad, just banged up. Waiting on adjuster visit so I can get the repairs started.

Oh man, I hate seeing stuff like this. So she would have hit a car or a bike or even someone walking apparently.
Better your sidecar body creased rather than your flesh & blood.

Hey, when you get your insurance estimate lose that stock "C-Clip engine guard" even if you have to buy-up. They suck and don't give near the protection you'll want for that lower engine and valve cover area. Replace with the type that has bracing that also bolts into your frame.

You could also just get it straightened out an weld some re-bar to it to duplicate the same effect.

Thanks, I imagine the outcome would have been worse if I had been on one of my 2-wheelers.

I talked to the dealer up in Guntersville. He said if the sidecar needs to be replaced it may well total the vehicle. I'm hoping it can be straightened/repaired. Will just have to see how bad it is. Adjuster is coming by the house today to do an inspection. I will have it checked by the dealer before I agree to anything though. Don't think the impact was severe enough to bend the frame (The light had turned green and I had just started moving when she hit me), but will have to wait and see what the dealer finds.

Yeah, I was wearing a high viz reflective safety vest too and she still didn't see me. True, better metal bent than bones broken!

I like that engine guard, where did you get it or is it homemade? I did a quick Google search and didn't see one on offer at the regular suppliers.

I think any or all of the regular dealers sell them or would order for you. Check Raceway, Holopaw, Terry Crawford, Heindl (sp), etc.

I bought from one of them, don't remember which.. They are pretty common especially after you bend the original one.

I have seen some interesting re-bar versions coupled with hardened footrest too but I think those we homemade. But very, very strong. Someone will post a picture of one it they are reading this thread. Much better welders than I (I suck at welding).

Fecking moron, hope she gets prosecuted.

Despite stiff penalties in the UK, they still can't seem to get the fecking things unglued from their ears.

Ural shop.com has them, unfortunately not for right side fitting, aka for righthand drive rig. (Drive on the left of the road.) :(

I did a quick look at Raceways site. I didn't see the engine guard with the brace listed as an accessory but somethings weird about their accessory page anyway. They don't seem to have a lot listed.

They do however have the braced guard listed with attachment to their footrests.
JEEZ, very expensive at $1500.00. I buy most of my 2 wheelers for less than that. I think this is their own in-house version.

Must have been a different dealer? It's not that unique.

Fun ride yesterday. Testing the new steering damper. Ran it up to 60 mph on the highway. Really windy day, the damper really helped. Found some more area gravel roads. These were a bit more civilized than last time. Concrete low water crossing, so I didn’t get stuck. Although in the summer these are usually green slime, and take out a lot of two wheelers, me included.
