The specialist evaluator I went to Atlanta to see spent five hours testing me for almost everything. Good news, I am back home now. It was an exhausting trip, and hotels do not have hospital beds, so I hardly slept a wink.
Other news - I am officially 100% disabled - I cannot function sufficiently well to look after myself, and will need care for the rest of my life. This means that I am totally disabled, with no prospect of self function.
This I find fascinating, again, because I spent a few hours in the last three days chatting with a man who can do less than I can. So is he 110% disabled.. I recon the figures are pointless. The electronic van controls are nearly 100 grand, so they are out, permanently - if I need them, I will not be driving again, but the OT driving instructor took me out in a mechanical control with zero effort steering - I could drive it. So next week, I may have a fancy new van with steering you can do with one finger. It will have servo assisted throttle, and twice the brake servo a normal van has - takes almost no effort to drive, just got to find the money.

Hello Mylash,
As we say one shovel of cal, one shovel of sand...
A good news and a bad news.
But the best notice of all, you are animated.
Sounds good you might get a minor force van control system.
When you get a quote, do not hesitate to ask to let the hat go round.
For me and more then one of us here, we would be honored to help a bit to get you wheeling although it might be in a cage. But it will give you more freedom again.

Jim Pettiti of Racewayservices is bound to the wheel chair now 8 years or so and has a special van too. He is not to stop neither by his age nor the cancer he is fighting. All is in the brain and attitude.

Keep us informed and go for it.

(I delivered yesterday some smoked fish to several old friends who had/have misfortunes like widower or cancer, you may bet each one of them fights how it should be.)( today I passed a few hours in a motorcycle shop that could serve as museum easily. Several Ariel square four, a NSU Supermax, a dozen Triumph, and another dozen Beemers.... It was a nice distraction. The owner had to leave to bring his about 40 year old daughter into hospital for cancer treatment...you know which recipe I gave him on his way?)

God bless you and accompany you.

Financing approved, Wednesday is the pick up day. 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan, with 14in lowered floor, zero effort steering, zero effort hand controls, with lock for my chair, and no driver's seat. I am looking forward to the first service - how will they get it to the bay..

The pedals exist, but are behind a comfortable foot rest, so hand controls is the thing. I am paying $52K for the thing, over ten years, I will probably pay it off early, they say I can pay lump sums when ever I want. I have to spend all day down at Atlanta again, because the van needs fitting to me, and the chair needs a lock bolt under it. Like a semi king pin.

I feel useless, but don't care anymore - the OT, home help, and doctor all say I am the most cheerful cripple they have met. Apparently I should be depressed - that ain't going to happen.

So, I will be mobile in a specially adapted van, fitted to me and my wheelchair. I need a few specialist bits of equipment in the house, like patient lift, power transfer system, and special shower, toilet and sink, as well as a different hospital style bed - this one is not good enough, according the the OT woman. they have scripted me for a lot of stuff, hope the insurance doesn't throw a hissy fit.

Kermitskitico jumped into the hole while I started to dig it out more in the late afternoon. He couldn't wait.
The first photo was out of internet of the strange orange eye leaf frog that breads in our farm. They put the eggs glued to water lili leafs, hatch the eggs for 3 days, after 8 days the tadpoles fall into the water and their tadpoles swim vertical in the water center (seam to feed on microorganisms or insect larvae, but not algae, they stay far away from other frog or toad's tadpoles.. this one is a real world baby froggy who just left the ditch perhaps today.

Cool looking little frog. Got new van. drives nice, steering so light can do with one finger, or thumb - that is really light. the controls are equally light, I can control throttle, brake and steering with one hand using palm on control and thumb on wheel. There is an anti swerve mechanism, so even loosing a wheel will not make the van swerve, so thumb driving safe. I need to get used to it, the wheelchair needs to be a little nearer the steering wheel for comfort, but that is an easy fix.

Frog now 90% functional, and improving daily - I got my Frog back. She sitting with me listening to Mumford & Sons.
I am coping a little better, learning to do things differently, like pick up my legs to move them, and shuffle around on my butt. It is different, but I am having fun learning - going to a rehab centre on wednesday and thursday so will see what they say.

The new van works great - I can drive all day long and go places easily. it parks under the car port too, so it won't get snow on it.. :) My strength is nothing - the dog is stronger than me - its a chihuaha
