Re: 98 Sportsman FD leak

I know nothing about the Sportman FD with differential other than what I've read here (not much). But I'll offer this up. My 2000 FD did not have a vent. It would leak from the pancake seal. I drilled the filler plug and made a vent with a cap to keep rain and water out and my FD has been dusty dry ...

Re: Harley Davidson Electra Glide Stock Seat on a Ural

Most HD fixed seats have a forward tongue type mount and a tab at the rear thru which a bolt in the fender passes and a nut holds it in place. Key to any fit is if the contour of the seat matches the contour of the bike/frame/fender. So, you can probably answer your own question by pulling your seat...

Re: How and When to Clean Float Bowls

Never in my 68 years have I heard of cleaning a float bowl as any type of preventative maintenance. When you store a bike for the winter, it is advisable to either run the bowl dry or drain it if it has a drain screw. Being a Ural does not change this. Have you ever heard of anyone cleaning the bowl...

Re: Another hack added to the herd

I did not see an attachment when I checked that old thread. Here is a tutorial, complete with diagrams that I wrote after way to many requests like yours. This was published in the Indian Four magazine in their last issue. I must have written it after I started that thread. Simple Zinc Plating Proce...

Re: Justi bought 2002 Ural w/sidecar

I suspect my guess that the dealer "borrowed" the starter off this bike and never replaced it is probably correct given what you found on the ring gear.

Re: Justi bought 2002 Ural w/sidecar

While looking for remnants of the starter wiring, look under the seat for a battery disconnect switch. I believe they were still provided with the early 750 machines. I have to say that the blank off plate does look nice. I wonder if a dealer needed a starter for another bike and robbed the one of t...

Re: Another hack added to the herd

Spent the last couple of days bringing the seat back latch back to life. As mentioned, somebody gutted the latch, and not in a gentle way some time in the past. My guess is they did not have a key (basically a screwdriver so decided to do away with it. Regardless, I pulled it out of the seat after s...

Re: Justi bought 2002 Ural w/sidecar

Yes, Tourist. No starter motor as in it is missing or just removed. If removed, it probably stopped working. More than likely fixable. Rust can make the solenoid hang up. Check the ring gear on the flywheel for a bad spot. Could be that is why it was removed rather than not working. 2002 should stil...

Re: Another hack added to the herd

I am deeply immersed in sprucing up the hack. Old mods have been removed, welds blended away and drilled holes welded shut and blended. This was all on chassis. Matched original black paint and touched up as required. Turns out upholstery was replaced at one time and seat back was later redone in wh...

Re: Pad for dogs

I have a friend whose flat coat retriever, Marty, lives to ride in his BMW /2 rig with Hollandia hack. I think his dog mod is a great idea. Cushion is fabric coated for traction. He takes the entire seat out and uses just the cushion, which is about 3 inches thick. The key feature is a hole in the m...

If the top nut is indeed aluminum, it should not be a jam nut. I agree the Loctite and tighten until straight.

Re: MMG Sport Cruiser tire

The words China and Cheap have brought a new meaning to the phrase "poor quality products". They have entirely different standards that most of use are accustomed to. We've seen this in poisoned dog food, lead content in children's toys, etc..

Re: 2020 GU fuse boxes

Just google that brand name, Chad. I did that yesterday and lots of images. If you add fuse box to the brand name, you'll get photos of those as well. I agree that this is great info. I've had to replace or add terminals like this on a Harley. Fortunately, HD sells replacement terminals. These are o...
