Was that photo taken in Rantoul, IL?
I have no idea where chaos2 got the photo, but Rantoul makes sense;.that's where Vetter Fairings started and I'm about 40 moles from there, so running into a former employee at the local grocery store fits the available facts.

Re: Not a normal UDF parking lot conversation

RP's wife: I haven't seen Hippo Hands in years. I used to sew them for Craig Vetter. She might be in this shot. Hippo Hands are one of the best things Vetter made, nothing compares to them. It's entirely possible this was her. Same hairstyle, even (although it's all white now). https://i.imgur.com/...

Not a normal UDF parking lot conversation

Normal UDF parking lot conversation: Random person: What is that thing? Me: <begins recitation of history of Ural, from the BMW R71 on> Not a normal UDF parking lot conversation: Random person: Where do you get your Ural serviced? Me: Um...do most of it myself; haven't needed anything major yet. Pla...

Re: Any US based sites for Royal Enfield parts or accessories?

I have ordered from Fort Worth and an India ebay dealer enfieldcounty_au. The ebay dealer ships faster than Fort Worth (time from order to delivery is 10 days) and is half the price for the same merchandise. Many muffler styles are available. LRP Dick A word of caution, though - enfieldcounty_au an...

Re: Any US based sites for Royal Enfield parts or accessories?

Baxter is good, but Royal Enfield of Fort Worth has more accessories and gear. They're also the shop that assembles all bikes sold in the US.

Re: Please....Let Us Know Back!!!

Have to say this is a great post. I've only had one "what's wrong with my Ural" post, and made a point to come back, report the actual cause and solution, thank the person that pointed me in the right direction, and joined in the discussion of how to prevent it from happening again. The wealth of kn...

Re: 7 December 1941

Between the wars there was a peacetime draft. Get called up, you serve two years. My clever grandfather who didn't pay much attention to the news found a loophole: volunteer and you'd only have to serve for one year. He waltzed into the Army recruiter's office on December 1st, 1941. He'd been born i...

Re: Chicagoland Service Centers

I'm not sure that Scoots4U is even a going concern anymore. BBK would be my first choice, but only if I didn't feel like driving to see Terry. There is also Randy's in Marengo. These are the dealers I pulled off of Ural's website this morning. I though Randy's walked away from dealing with Ural, bu...

I removed mine long ago from my 2010 G5 Deluxe Bullet, & don't hear any unusual noises above the THUMP.
So does everyone on this forum own a Royal Enfield Bullet or Classic or has owned one in the past? Must be the love for anachronistic bikes.

I've heard good things about BBK (I live south of you in the other Bloomington) but if taking it to Terry is an option, why wouldn't you?

Very nice Enfield, what purpose do those rubber objects attached to the fins have?
Vibration dampers. Apparently the UCEs are a lot noisier than the old iron barrels so the vibration dampeners act as a kind of sound deadener.

Codemonkey comes from the song by Jonathan Coulton. I'm a software developer by trade. https://youtu.be/7fRt1fhBkxk My avatar is my first bike, and the only bike I owned when I joined the forum. It's a picture I'm particularly proud of because not only did the artist who did the graphic on the batte...

Re: Not a ural but close

When I was looking to buy a sidecar rig I'd lined up a Cozy Rocket delivered to my door from the dealer in Canada with windscreen, wheel, and tire for $3400 (out of Texas windshield is extra, and the dude in Xenia Ohio charges extra even for the wheel) and found a brand new 10 miles on the odometer ...
