Re: '98 Ural Bavarian, was $6800 now $5800

Thanks for confirming I'm not crazy. I did some more digging, and per NADA $7399 was the MSRP in 1999, so I'm guessing he's like all the other Craigslist/Facebook sellers around here, refusing to accept that depreciation is a thing.

LISTING REMOVED - '98 Ural Bavarian, was $6800 now $5800

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/183531622514612 Not my listing. I'm new to the Ural world and looking to buy my first. Coming here for a sanity check; does this price seem at all reasonable? I challenged the guy on the price because I can't find any Kelly Blue Book prices over $4500 for a ...

Re: Is 2WD an absolute must for midwestern winters?

Randys’ will probably have a booth at the Walneck Swap Meet in Woodstock next Sunday, the 9th. Cars have been added, so I’m going just to see if I can still not find parts for any of the oddball two/three/four wheelers I own. Damnit, I rode through a thunderstorm on my Royal Enfield in June to Waln...

Re: Is 2WD an absolute must for midwestern winters?

BBK in Elgin or Randys' in Marengo? I run lined mitts over Oxford heated grips so I can ride with thin gloves in the cold. Makes a big difference. Usually multiple layers on the bod, and my boots are rated to -30F. I was out on New Years Day when it was -10F. Wasn't a lot of fun but I didn't suffer...

Re: Is 2WD an absolute must for midwestern winters?

Since you're new to sidecars the stock Duro 308 street tread tires suck on anything besides dry street pavement. Please do upgrade to a semi-knobbie tire at least on the pusher. Tires are very subjective but I would go with a Duro 307 or equivalent. A semi-knob is much more stable on compact snow a...

Re: Is 2WD an absolute must for midwestern winters?

Spent 7 years in Chambana with a R60/2 sidecar rig. Rode in lots of snow with this 1WD no problems. My colliedog thought it was a good deal too. This is very reassuring given that BloNo has even fewer hills than Chambana (other side of the Bloomington Moraine). I'm sure my Great Dane/boxer mix will...

Re: Is 2WD an absolute must for midwestern winters?

Side question: do you intend to drive any faster than ~60MPH by yourself, or 55MPH with a passenger? I do believe the model years you're looking at (2WD or otherwise) have the smaller 650cc motor. Very doubtful I'll do more than 55 mph. My Royal Enfield has taught me to love older highways and back...

I live in Iowa and have driven a Tourist (2) for 17 years. My current bike is a 2007 Tourist and I feel that a 2WD is a wa...

Re: Is 2WD an absolute must for midwestern winters?

When researching this same issue (I am in Minnesota) the board's consensus seems to be that 2WD is not necessary unless you explicitly plan on riding in snow, very loose dirt, or mud. That being written, I met a gentleman at a recent meetup and he rides his Ural all year round. 2WD has come in hand...

Is 2WD an absolute must for midwestern winters?

Looking to buy a Ural, and getting very impatient so I've been lowering my target a bit. Originally wanted new, then figured "still under warranty", then "as long as it's got EFI". Even that's gone by the wayside; it's been 30 years since I've worked on a carburetor but I hope to relearn. There are ...

Re: Would you buy a Ural if there was no dealership around?

Codemonkey, La is a long ways away. There's a good looking 013 in Green Bay...much closer. https://sovietsteeds.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=52547 If you're considering a new one, initial dealer set up is critical for long term happiness so you'll want an established dealer that "knows" Urals. Be...

Re: Would you buy a Ural if there was no dealership around?

Howdy, new member here, not an owner yet but hope to be soon. Current bike is a Royal Enfield Classic 500 so I'm used to owning a less dependable brand; I'm 130 miles from the nearest Royal Enfield dealer so going to a Ural dealer 150 miles away won't be a big deal for me. Actually pondering buying ...
