Re: How many ride all year round? (Particularly in snowy climates)

I wear thinsulate gloves and use hippo hands. Still came dangerously close to frostbite on -10°F days (NB: -10°F when you're doing 50mph you're generating your own -45°F wind chill), so I added heated grip covers to the mix this winter. Thus far, they've been toasty warm down to 6°F. One adjustment ...

Re: What did you do to your Ural today?

Did some minor maintenance over lunch hour - might explain why my mileage isn't as good as it ought to be. Pretty sure these are original to the beast. https://i.imgur.com/orjDsD1.png Holy crap! One kick, no choke, 39° and she roared to life after sitting for 8 hours! And none of that coughing/sputt...

Re: Need help to identify some parts I can't recognize

Thanks guys. I will remove compliance fittings and install the heat shields gaskets. I have new stile intake hoses new in box. I got the o-rings and gomets knowledge as well. Thanks. Last Ural oil filter I changed was back in 2005 and that was a 1999 Deco Classic before I converted that bike to BMW...

Re: Need help to identify some parts I can't recognize

the o rings may be for the old style oil filter. Yes, the o rings go at the base of the filter and the little rubber grommet fits inside the filter. The aluminum rings are perch rings - if you've still got the old air hoses , replace them with the new style . You'll thank yourself the second time y...

Re: Cutting Up with Uralists

I don't carry nearly as much as I used to. Kinda minimalist insofar as what I keep on my person (there's more in the trunk of the Ural and in the panniers of my two-wheeler). Basically all I've got on me is what I can smuggle through the inspection at the county courthouse. closed it's about 2 1/2" ...

Those tires are making me twitchy. How long was it tied down like that, or did you have recesses cut in the plywood for them so it'd sit better?

Re: Mirror adjustment

I doubt those bar end mirrors would clear the stock car shield though ... I got a set of the smaller round ones and had to drop plans for adding one on the right side. Maybe the risers make a difference? So use the left side bar end mirror and one of the many options for a mirror on the sidecar nos...

Re: 2018 dealer rebates and offers

A big thanks to codemonkey. I was in his area again yesterday for a job and timed it right this time. Was able to catch him outside and he was gracious enough to offer me a ride in the sidecar. Yes, I took him up on the offer. I think I used up every bit of his lunch time asking questions, picking ...

Re: What did you do to your Ural today?

I swear they should give out acheivements on Urals like in video games. Battery connector was loose and while I was tightening it, noticed a weird cap pop off the battery. Oops, I thought, lead acid battery that I haven't checked water levels on in a year of ownership. So I removed the side panels a...

Re: 2018 dealer rebates and offers

Did you ride today? I just visited the SS Facebook page and saw a post there from a guy riding his Ural in BloNo this morning? I drove through there this am on my way to Champaign and would have liked to have seen that. I've ridden my HD when it was 0 out, but with clear roads. Would been cool to s...

Re: 2018 dealer rebates and offers

Hopefully one of these days an opportunity to meet would come up. It would be great to see your Ural and pick your brain on ownership. I work up on the North side of Normal, off Hershey north of Ft Jesse. There's another Ural owner in Peoria - guy works for Cat. https://www.instagram.com/mojosdaddy/

Re: OK so I'm an idjuit - dead battery

If you’re not gong to ride in the next day or so, and want to skip jumping the battery, then buy a “Battery Tender Jr.” Easy to hook up to you battery and you leave it connected for use next time. And if you've got an American-style cigarette lighter socket in the sidecar you can get an SAE to ciga...

Where are you at in Illinois? My bike used to belong to Dave Clark in Pacific, MO (St Louis suburb) set up to his specifications - custom seats by Rich Maund, never had an issue with it. He's still listed as a dealer.

Re: problems out of nowhere?

"Perch ring" is a machined aluminum ring that fits over the intake of the carburetor. It provides more surface area for the intake tubes. I put them on my Keihins and they work great! No more loose intake tubes. http://racewayural.com/product/new-cvk-keihin-carburetor-perch-ring-set-pn10289/ http:/...

Re: What did you do ON your Ural today?

Ran to Harbor Freight for a multimeter and figured out where I'd gone wrong wiring my heated grips. Add the Harbor Freight coupon app to your smartypants phone. Under the "20% and Free" link, you'll occasionally find a coupon for a free electronic multimeter with any purchase. I think I have 5 or 6...
