Re: Disc brake thickness ?

Got it. You should be ok, never hurts to check and get an idea of rate of wear. OEM do wear a bit fast.

Not familiar with that era, was that factory or retrofit?

Re: Palmer AK Antique Plow Day

On a similar note I read a book about a guy that rode across Siberia on a Sportster with a sidecar (accompanied by a couple of Urals) and they used blow torches to heat the oil tank and oil pans in the morning. When I quite the dump truck job, I went to get my Bronco parked at a friends. Fired up f...

Re: Palmer AK Antique Plow Day

I worked a Dump Truck spread (all diesels) on the Pipeline based out of Fairbanks. We had great fall weather, 40 at night, until it dropped to -20 from one night to the next. We had 60 some dump trucks, we got all of 5 started that morning. Man, unhappy folks with contract failing to deliver and imp...

Re: Brakes (2018 Ural Gear Up)

I wore out my rear with a failure to release the parking brake problem. Pretty dumb as there is a light, but there it is.

I replaced them with Semi Sintered and don't use the parking brake now!

Re: Hello...

To be clear not trying to push or tell you which way to go, just what the options are. I met up with Keith from (Cameron Island ?) who has (2018 GU I think, ergo prior setup) when I was in Washington State. He came up to B'Ham (we had tried a number of link ups and that finally seemed easiest) with ...

Re: Disc brake thickness ?

Tim: What is the point of the question? Does your retro have Disk breaks? What is relevant to wear is how much is left, and that is a visual with a slot in the pads. If there is no slot then they are worn to the point of replacement. 1 mm is the listed minimum thickness for a 2019 and probably back ...

Re: Hello...

Welcome: Frankly I both like used cycles and until the Ural, that is all I had. Point of correction, the Ural had FI in 2015 (2014?). While the Keihin is a big plus power wise, the Electro Jet worked decently, sometimes needed the Off Road Map to get some issues off the table. My Cousin in law got a...

Re: Dnepr - Oils and lubricants to be used

While regular oil works well, Synthetic has the upper temp range and the lower temp range handled. I am running Mobile 4T cycle oil in the engine. I had some extensive talks with Mobile and they were good with the Mobile Euro oil (0 or 5 W). I got a head guy as the discussion went over the first guy...

Re: Trailer in NOVA?

If you rent the U haul (have done so and I love their stuff even when its beat up) take their insurance on it. Yours will cover it, but the hassles of an accident are not worth it (long story, not their fault) As one guy explained it to me in words I understand (a bit of paraphrases here) you can du...

Re: Brakes (2018 Ural Gear Up)

When I was poor and broke, the pads wore through on my Jeep. They should not have, way too soon. I failed to inspect and trusted experience and mileage. Until the rivets hit they were fine, made a lot of gouges in the rotor, cost of new rotors was too high, pucks are cheap so I bought a set. Worked ...

Re: Dealers

NMBILL: You can go either way. Some benefit of having a relationship with the Arizona dealer of course. But if you are mostly going to work on it yourself, you can get from Pittsburgh and then still haul it over to Arizona if needed. In my case the dealer was a means to get what I wanted where I wan...

Re: 2015 Ural Noob question

You are welcome. Per Tomcatfixer who did a terrific (brilliant) write up on 2015, that is very solid. In my case I was looking at a used 2016 or latter until the 2019 reports came out. After that it was a no brainer for me. For my need and purposes what I gathered was the 2015-2018 would be a bit sh...

Re: Water injected cooling

As I remember it, water injection was/is used on KC-135 jets in the Air Force. I think they carried something like 5,000 gallons of water for injection during takeoff. And I also think it was demineralized water. That would make sense as the KC-135 was a 707 or a 720 (never could figure out why the...

Re: Palmer AK Antique Plow Day

Ever seen a Lanz Bulldog running? No, I have read about it though! AK tended to more common mfgs, ergo JD, Fergusan, Ford, the Alliss etc. We did not see a lot of the common cool cars up here either. Keep in mind though, the AK Highway was built with the Cat D-7 that had the Pony engine start syste...
