...so I sent it to Jon Heindl....
Jon rebuilt my transmission several years ago and I cannot say enough good things about it, and Heindl. Fortunate to be only a hop, skip and jump away from them!

If the foot brake was needless, why would it be on the motorcycle?
Maybe it's for old school riders who swore using the front brake would "throw you over the handlebars"

Re: Starter Not Working - 2009 Ural Retro

+1, probably needs cleaning, they tend to get pretty funky inside. I cleaned mine twice, lasted a year or two with the salty winters here, then gave up and just kick start it now. In 2017 the came out with a new starter which would be a worthwhile update.

Re: Horror Freight Jack Stands Recall

I had a pair of the jacks that got recalled originally (never had a problem with them), HF replaced them for free then recalled the replacements. Just lucky, I guess. Usually I use them on the ural or the VW, they probably never see half their rated weight limit. Had other jackstands from Genuine Au...

I put these over the stock grips years ago, they must be good because I've never given them a second thought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000W ... UTF8&psc=1

Re: This place is going downhill

jeez, never heard so much whining by motorcyclists! 90's plus and muggy here and I think I've driven the car twice, and one of those was after cataract surgery (still a little shaky to trust myself on the mc) Feel horribly decadent using the AC in the car. Actually have not driven the Ural all that ...

what Citroen? I have a 2CV (another aircooled flat twin)

It was a '68 ID-19, loved the overall weirdness and hydraulic suspension. Unfortunately, it pretty much rusted away under me and is no more.

Re: Look under that mat in your sidecar...

Couple years ago I used the shop vac to vacuum leaves out of the tub and sucked all the paint off the floor! Thus began a month long project with wirebrushes, Ospho, tin snips, pop rivits.....turns out the car floor isn't the only place the paint was for decorative purposes only!

Re: How and When to Clean Float Bowls

Rather than removing them I would just drain them for normal maintenance. Water tends to accumulate in the bottom of the bowl and can cause problems. There is a hex head on the right side of the bowl, with petcock off, just loosen it and all the contents drain out the bottom. Do not overtighten it, ...

Re: Oil filter options

I've run 20-50 motor oil and 75-90 gear oil in the tranny, both work fine but settled on Red Line Heavy Shock. I use that in the rear too, with only a couple ounces in there I want the best stuff possible.

Re: Epic dashboard for 2020 Gear Up!

Nice job on the dash, only problem is the monkeys I usually ride with wouldn't notice or care if the CHT gauge went off scale! They would probably like knowing the ambient temp so they could complain about being too hot or cold
