Re: Dnepr for sale - Connecticut

Sent him a message. I'm upgrading my facilities and will have a home worthy of an MT-12.

It's not even an M-72. Looks like possibly a Dnepr MB750.

I wouldn't be surprised if sometimes the factory ran out of primer and just kept going anyway.

Re: 2000 and earlier paint

I too am a big fan of the old paint, especially as a victim of the 2014 powder coat. My 2000 BC is in much better shape.

All my mid-90's Urals would fade in the sun, but gleam would be restored easily using polishing compound. The paint was thick and adhered well.

Re: WTB

I just used it as a starting point, 14,15,16,17..... would be fine. I would like all disc brakes and fuel injection. I am not opposed to an even older drum brake or carbed model, just a starting point. You should know the '14-'18 bikes come with (IMO) some pretty severe trade-offs relative to both ...

Re: Kentucky eBay - Dnepr K650 currently $3,999

Doesn't look like a 90's Yuri special at first glance. Could have some pedigree. Looks pretty. The ask is reasonable. I might bite if I was in the market.

Re: Hard starting '14.

It's a good story, but I bet his actual sample size with Urals was very small. Most of the Russians I know who have known Urals have experience with one particular bike -- their brother, cousin, grandfather, the mailman, etc :)

Re: Hard starting '14.

I think compression on the Ural is too low for starting fluid to cause pre-detonation. And despite all attempts at correction (I'm the OP here) over the years, and it getting somewhat easier than it used to be - for example, I can mostly kickstart it cold from spring to fall, though not without cons...

Re: Counter-revolutionary alternative to Keihin EFI???

I'm with you. I'll never be happy with it, and I'd love to ditch it. But right now it works "well enough" that investing in solving it by replacement is throwing good money after bad. That said, if someone found a cheap way to make a spark with the current unit while feeding a pair of carbs... I mig...

Re: Ural 1998

What Rich said.

Plus, you can get that bike in the US for a similar price, in proper import spec and without the risk of customs hassles and the added cost of delivery.
