Re: Nice Rig, not Russian, not mine...

I don't know, fellas. It's a lot of money for something that doesn't have reverse or 2WD.

For that money, I'd get a Mobec:

One day, when my kids are grown and I'm ready for some serious touring, I might do just that.

Re: Hard starting '14.

Chad...Still have the vacuum ports from the pre-OBII days? I never installed vacuum ports on my compliance fittings or throttle bodies. Perhaps you have me confused with Albuquralque or gobium . Not sure who raised this question as I don't see it in recent posts, but I do have vacuum ports installe...

I didn’t realize it was new old stock. $8500 isn’t outrageous considering.

Re: Hard starting '14.

Update after several weeks: Although the new Taiwan e-starter makes electric starting much more reliable in that the battery is less likely to die before the bike starts, and the car battery I installed gives me lots of cranking amps, neither of these solve the problem of repeated stalling after sta...

Re: 1971 BMW with a Ural sidecar - $6,000 - Baltimore, MD

It's been some time since Adam Smith established that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay :) that's not the full equation, though -- there's also a matter of how many such buyers there are versus the number of items available. There's no shortage of Russian, Ukrainian, and Chinese...

Re: Car battery installation?

Since the starting fluid trick makes it possible to kickstart reliably, the big battery is no longer necessary. But since I have bought it and it presents nothing but upsides (other than having to relocate the Jerry can) I’m going to go ahead and permanently install it.

Re: Car battery installation?

I took some measurements. The night vision case is 140mm, my car battery is 120mm. Height-wise I didn't bother to measure as the case is probably twice as tall as the battery. This leaves ample room for cables, fasteners, and some padding to protect the battery. This looks like it might be the way t...

Re: 1971 BMW with a Ural sidecar - $6,000 - Baltimore, MD

Quite reasonable considering people seem to think these airheads are worth $6k on their own.

$3k for just a sidecar would be pretty steep. I’d at least expect a running 650 attached to it for that price.

Re: Car battery installation?

I already have a few of these night vision boxes. I'm going to see if my auto battery will fit in them. It's pretty slim.

Re: O2 sensor replacement

My guess is that in using this precise sensor and connector combination IMWA was taking advantage of the HD economies of scale. Changing it would likely incur unnecessary cost.

Custom machining opportunity

A friend of mine has a $500 certificate to this place: https://www.emachineshop.com/sample-prices/ He asked me whether there are any Ural parts I might want machined, since he doesn't have any pressing projects or ideas. Can you guys think of anything useful that you might want to make? If there's s...

Re: O2 sensor replacement

The connectors are the same for 2014-2018. I was thinking I would use my old O2 sensors as connector donors for a project, but I've got more money than I have time to muck about these days, so I bought a pair of these instead: https://cart.dynojet.com/p-1521-active-exhaust-eliminator-euro-hd.aspx I'...
