Re: Knocking at slow Rpms, but not idle.

Very interesting. Good read and thank you. I think I still need to learn more, on the subject.

Sounds like I was getting a ping then.

Re: Knocking at slow Rpms, but not idle.

Also, I have the 750 engine. But I was just trying to do some research and on the difference between k locking and pinging and everything I've been reading says that they're the same thing.

Re: Knocking at slow Rpms, but not idle.

I know a little bit of knocking is normal on a steep grade but I was getting a little more than usual, esp when I was tooling around in the dirt before. But when I changed the plugs it went away. One plug was a little grayish and the other was a little brown. Drove for 2 hours after changing the plu...

Knocking at slow Rpms, but not idle.

I know I should know this, but I don't. It goes away as soon as I get going. I'll hear it when I'm starting on slight hill in first or id I switch gears going up a hill and don't have sufficient my momentum

Haha, last year the a nut from the air cleaner got sucked into that side and temporarily welded the piston to the head. I thought I had hydrolocked the engine.

I've since replaced that side.

Re: Leak down test results.

 Bob Why it is always the left cylinder not right?. Lean out alignment set up  Well this is the right cylinder, the nut from the air cleaner was sucked in to left cylinder and I replaced that piston. Well . That's suck. Fire your mechanic Now "Ryrypizza you're fired." "Ok" It appears that...

Re: Leak down test results.

Van & I figured it out. This is one for the record books. Ryan, you are one lucky, lucky owner. Go buy a lottery ticket today! That "hole in the center" isn't a hole. It is a washer from the air filter hold-down bolts that was sucked through the carb and past the intake valve and has gotten welded ...

Re: Leak down test results.

What exactly do you mean by rate. Rate was a poor choice of words. amount(%) would have been better. Essentially a LD tester has two gauges. First inline is the regulator gauge. 2nd inline is the cyl gauge. Some cyl gauges are calibrated in % some identical to the regulator gauge in PSI. Mines the ...

Re: Leak down test results.

Uh oh, if Van is asking what that hole is then I must be in trouble.

I assumed it was normal. I'm out of town out the moment so I'll have to check when I get back.

This is the original piston

Re: Leak down test results.

As Michael mentioned: the rings aren't air tight so some leak will occur. For checking approx ring or valve condition with a leakdown tester is the reason the tester includes the gauges. Condition is determined by "the rate of the leakdown" not if it does or doesn't leak cause it will. What exactly...

Leak down test results.

So I just did a leak down test twice, with the same result each time.

I am hearing and feeling air come from the exhaust side push rod tube. I can hear no air coming from the breather, exhaust or carb intake (carb off)

So what does that mean? Does that still suggest a ring issue

Re: Smoking out the crankcase vent.

No smoke at the tail pipes. Have you had anyone follow you to see? When my left rings were failing, my buddy asked if I had been hired by the County to fog mosquitos. I never noticed anything in my mirrors, and looking down and back at 55mph can induce vertigo, so I never looked. Preliminary result...

Right-265ish Left-290ish Plug gap at begining was .020ish switched ...
