Do I Need an Oil Cooler?

The Volkswagen pilot in me screams, "Why the hell does this thing NOT have an oil cooler standard?" With ambient temps hovering around 90°F, I've noticed a few ponies seem to be napping, and I'm just wondering if an oil cooler would wake them up any. It's going to get (much) hotter, but I'm not sure...

Re: Let's Play "What's That Ural Noise?"

one very nasty occasional Quirp is when a ball bearing has eaten up the cage, the balls block and tend to turn the inner race on the shaft or outer race in the nest... Have seen that often enough in machines. and it ain't good in a final drive.... it ate that tooth in the left. Just assuming here--...

Re: Let's Play "What's That Ural Noise?"

I finally pulled the car wheel off and cured the whoops with a finger-load of grey molly grease. The noise stopped just after I posted this about a month ago. I was a little worried that whatever was making noise finally broke, but then the noise came back about a week ago---even worse than before. ...

Re: helmet communicators

I've been mistreating a set of Cardo Scala Rider G4's for over ten years now; rain, dust, mud, etc. I left them in a jacket for a year, and they charged up and ran just like new. Transmission is great with super coverage; my wife wore hers into a grocery store while I got gas next door and we talked...

Let's Play "What's That Ural Noise?"

2016 Gear Up (2WD) At low speed (5--25) the sidecar wheel makes a "whirp whirp whirp" sound that relates to the RPMs of the wheel. I got a grease gun and fed the drive shaft zerks some grey molly grease at both ends, but the whirp persisted. Everything over there was kind of squeeky, so I put some I...

Re: How many of us are active hams?

KC0ZPS (Zombie Pepper Spray)... I was into ham radio quite a bit there for awhile, but I've definitely slowed down in recent years. In fact, my 2003 FZ1 has a ham radio setup that I used to use all the time. The radio supported bluetooth, so I was able to communicate with people using a bluetooth h...

Re: How many of us are active hams?

I'm fairly active.
Just put a mobile rig in my 2016 Gear Up and I've done a little neighborhood "mountain topping" in the San Antonio area. Pics of the rig at the bottom of my QRZ page. https://www.qrz.com/db/KE5PWX

My Check Engine Light Went Out!

I went for a two hour ride yesterday and noticed that my check-engine light was not glowing. I'm so used to it being on I thought, "OH NOW WHAT?" :) It's been on almost constant since I got it back in November. Code always flashes a 142 or 143 (oxygen sensor fault of some sort). Otherwise, running l...

Two Months on My First Ural

Another motorcycle guy asked me, "How does it handle?" ---and prompted me to write this two-month report. I told my friend "It's like a very pedestrian motorcycle, but more like a very fast ATV that desperately want's go back to Russia." :) Most of my first month was spent riding the spare after the...

Dumb A$$ Attack - Parking Brake

I stopped at a convenience store with the wife and little dog in the bucket last night. I put on the parking brake to hold it on a slight incline. I was in a kind of 'dip', so had to use reverse to get out of the parking spot. I didn't really notice the brake was still on for about a quarter mine an...

Hi. For 750 urals I use ural of new England. Professional group with a lot in stock. Good website too.
That's a great one that I've used a couple times, but I could have sworn I saw a list of links around here somewhere.

Would make a great idea for a pinned topic!

Re: What did you do ON your Ural today?

Uh, damping steering? :) OK, which means what? :D With a sidecsr outfit you can often get a bit of front wheel wobble, that is handlebars shake (side to side) at slow speed, typically around 20 mph. The damper stops the shake. That's all it's supposed to do. You might be expecting more from it howe...
