Re: Not The Screw Rally2014/Reservoir Dogs Edition

I'm taking a family vacation that week, so I'm out.

However, I am going to be riding and motocamping up around there most of next week. Yeah, I have timing issues...

Re: Sputtered to a stop in the rain. Now I have an Arcing Pl

I had that problem while on a trip during several days of rain. I periodically hosed it with WD40 as a temporary measure that worked.

Re: Single Wheel Final Drive Cover Bolt Torque

I just had mine off too to replace a bad driven spline hub. I am ashamed to admit I just tightened 'em by hand without considering torque values. Maybe I ought to go back and do it more precisely...

Re: FD spline issue

Okay, I managed to get everything apart, replace the spline hub, and get it back together again. It turned out not to be all that difficult, just a bit intimidating.

Re: FD spline issue

I got my final drive driven spline from Gene, and you can see how badly worn the original is when comparing them. I have the FD out and split, making sure I collected all 45 needle bearings. I'm having an anxiety attack thinking about putting all those back... How do you get the driven spline and ri...

Re: FD spline issue

He's only got 24K on it, :? unless on an 05 this would be considered normal? :feelsgood: John I'm thinking' mileage isn't the issue here... I can dig one hole per year with a shovel but if'n I leave that shovel in my back yard while I'm not using it, it's gonna deteriorate... A stretch, maybe, but ...

The splines should be flat on top not pointed
John

Mine are flat on top, but now they are slightly rounded off on the very ends. Is the final drive spline piece year-specific, or will any one do?

Re: FD spline issue

To clarify, it's not the splines on the shaft, it's the ones in the rear wheel hub and where the hub hooks into the FD. I lube them liberally whenever I change a tire or rotate wheels. If anything, I put on too much. I have been reading here and there that rotating the wheels rather than keeping the...

FD spline issue

I was out riding today and after a short stop at a state park, I lost power to the rear wheel. The transmission and motor were fine and the shaft was turning, but the FD was just making a faint grinding noise. I pulled the wheel off and the ends of the splines on both the wheel and the FD were sligh...

Re: LOCATING AND MARKING TDC AND TIMING MARKS ON FLYWHEEL

Nice write up! Haha, I'm the guy who started the earlier buggered up flywheel thread you cited at the beginning  . Since I never did manage to get my new marks made accurately, I'll try your method the next time I have the gumption to pull everything apart to expose the flywheel.

Re: Ural Day trips in CT

I'm in Woodstock in the rural, northeast corner of CT within spitting distance of RI and MA.

Excellent riding around here, if any of you get out this way.

It's a bit like driving a grand piano around, isn't it? :D
