Re: ECU Snorkel

Last week I took my rig up to Smothers Brothers, Des Moines, and they installed the snorkels for free while the rig was parked in front of their shop door- took about an hour. Apparently it is a "dealer-installed" item if you bought the bike there.

Re: 2019 drive shafts grease fitting

I agree with greasing a U-joint when lubing the shaft splines...note that when applying grease to a U-joint, be sure that at least a small amount of grease oozes from all 4 cap bearings. If grease comes from 3 of the caps, but not the 4th, try rotating the U-joint and repeat greasing...if still no g...

Re: Protecting Tail Light and Blinker Lenses

Mikey, I'll describe how I made the lens protection, but first, some disclaimers: I am an amateur blacksmith...been at it for about 45 years now (OK, maybe I'm just shy of a being professional). I have most of the tools (gas and coal forges, oxy-propane torch, hammers, anvil, anvil tools, tongs, trea...

Re: Protecting Tail Light and Blinker Lenses

Mikey, I've taken a few pics of how one might fabricate some Ural-worthy ironware - I'll put something together shortly. I'll let you know when and where it is posted.

Resizing Photos to Post on Soviet Steeds (Moved)

Lmo, from somewhere in CA, asked that I list the gyrations I go thru to resize a photo in MS Paint. I struggle with computers, so there are likely other ways to get there, so add your "better" methods!! Open MS "Paint" - I search my Local Disk C for "Paint". In Paint, under "Paste", click the dropdo...

Re: Protecting Tail Light and Blinker Lenses

Thanks, S 854, it was an exercise in frustration, but now I see the light. The other mods to the rig include a "stubby" left rear blinker shank and a 20mm ammo can under the tub...

Re: Protecting Tail Light and Blinker Lenses

Yes, I saved it in a new folder in "Pictures"...
Reading all the previous, I may need to get the 1.7MB size down to the 400KB size. There are several "save as" options to select (jpeg, etc) - which to use ?? swedge

Re: Protecting Tail Light and Blinker Lenses

Well, that didn't work...maybe try something a bit different...I have the file resized and added under "add files". It shows as a 1.7 MB file - clicking on it to try to drag it into the message box does not work.
As you might guess, computers are not so much my friends.

Protecting Tail Light and Blinker Lenses

A few years back on a 2005 Patrol I rode then, my son was getting out of the sidecar, lost his balance and crushed the right front blinker lens. Being a blacksmith sometimes, I fabricated some protection on my 2018 GU from a few scraps of 1/4 X 1 flat bar, 3/8 square, some 3/8 round and 1/4 round st...

Re: Shorty Stem

On my 2018 GU left rear blinker light I removed the light and stem, cut the stem to the length I thought I needed (took off about 2") then cut new threads (metric, but I do not recall what thread??), put it all back together in about 30 minutes...but you will need metric tap and die set (HF??). Moto...
