Thought you might like to see Richard's latest project for a customer in the Atlanta area. This bike only had 1700km's when the engine bit the dust.

Hi Bural,
Nice conversion. I wonder if a R100 motor would fit a Ural. & will the Ural drive system (tranny, FD, dirve shaft, etc) be able to handle the load?? of course it needs to stop too. Just wondering....coz I have an extra R100/7 motor and eventually would like to pull a small (for MC) camper/trailer with my Ural.
This is just a thought... Won't happen anytime soon...My 07 Patrol is running great but am concerned about pulling a small trailer with it if i decide to.

Thanks. I always tell my customers they still need to drive it like a Ural. The Ural drive train is improving with the Herzog gears in the trans. If we can get the Herzogs in the final drive, whoo whoooo. Your disc brake should handle the braking, but you could always put electric brakes on the trailer.

I modify the Ural gearbox, so you keep reverse. The extra HP and torque is really nice.

A friend of mine just gave me a late model BMW airhead motor which I plan on rebuilding. I too have a 2007 Patrol which is running great for a Ural but down the road I would like to make an engine transplant. He also has a new in the box late BMW airhead "long block" which he wants to put in a Ural. He doesn't have the Ural but he is looking.

I've been on the lookout for a R90/7 or R100/7 for when I wear out my '06's engime. Please poet the specifics of the conversion for those of us who plan to do one in the future.

Bural does the conversion as a side business, so he might not want to divulge his secrets....

And, it takes plenty of fine machinist's skills and a real understanding of the Ural's mojo to pull this off right... Richard is hands-down the best person to do this stuff.

Kids - don't try this one at home!

Thanks for the kind words, Dwight.

For those interested, I do not use an adapter plate. I modify the Ural gearbox to mate directly to the BMW engine. On the early model flywheel (pre 1981), a /2 clutch plate takes care of the spline and clutch issues. I also make a new clutch push rod that is a combination of BMW and Ural or Dnepr. The wiring is a combination of Ural and BMW. What is BMW stays BMW and what is Ural, stays Ural. To combine the two is just a couple of wires. Keep in mind, when contemplating this conversion, you need a complete engine, including headers.

The ones that were fixed until they were broken are of little good. I've got one that is not even good for parts, and is still sitting on the floor of the shop. The ones that were pulled for more power and reliability, were sold for the customers. The last one I sold (750) went for $1200, which helps offset the cost of the conversion. The last two conversions I did, the engines were bought back by the dealers.

If all I have is a Ural, how much will I have to save up to get this job done?
