500km And Blinkers Quit

Postby WKinNJ » Wed Sep 19, 2007 9:07 pm

Just turned 500km and the blinkers quit working. They first started not blinking now they don't even light (the indicator on the instrument panel still lights but stays on). I suspect the flasher died. Does anyone know were the flasher is located and the part number? Or somewhere I can find a decent wiring diagram - couln't believe the "wiring diagram" in the Owner's Manual: lots of lines but no detail.

Apparently the later rigs have an American flasher, that does not work for long - many report that putting a Russian one from an earlier year fixed the problem for them. I have had no problem with my cheapo Russian flasher.

The electronic one on my patrol didn't make it that long :o
The flasher is behind the headlight, sidecar side.
Three prong mechanical one from the auto parts store should do the job. :)
Welcome to the fun, comrade. :D

Almost forgot. They made some electrical changes in 07. Confused me a bit
when I had some headlight and signal issues. The 2006 is pretty close.
Good info from Bill Glaser here. The schematic in the manual with the bike was quite usless...this link to Bill's manual will help.

Yes, the Tridon APOC flasher is junk. Pull it and replcae it with another one you can pick up for $12 at NAPA.

Mine died while doing the 500km service!

Here's a pic.

When I picked up our new bike last week Bob Lewis at Ural Chicago had already replaced the flasher with a new one. It is part of their set-up that they do. Thay said that this type of flasher never last too long even in the semi trucks that use them.
We may not have it all together,
But, together we have it all.

Blinkers Fixed

Postby WKinNJ » Fri Sep 21, 2007 3:55 pm

Fixed the Blinkers today.

NAPA part #263 Lit. TS Flasher. Little pricy at 25.99 and snug fit because it's a little larger in diameter but now I can drive without fear of getting run over.

Thanks for the help and thanks for that picture John.

Thanks for this, all - I'm pretty sure the same flasher unit gremlin just struck my Patrol. About to run up to the auto parts store.

That wiring diagram's a big help too - got to color-print that and paste it over the one in the manual!
Cheers,
Anthony

the blinker on my 2007 Patrol died this weekend at 4552 km. Picked up a replacement at Checker for $4.33 inc. tax (Blazer FL550 11-15V 3 pin flasher 20-1036-2). It is about 2x the length of the Tridon original but it does not interfere with anything and the additional length makes it easier to install and remove.
