Parking Brake screw

Postby MartyL » Sun Apr 20, 2008 11:50 am

While I was riding the other day. I stopped for lunch. Where I parked I was on a slight hill (Can you believe a hill in Florida). I thought I'd use my parking brake which I never use because I usually forget to release it when I take off. I usually just leave it in reverse. Well....... When I went to engage the parking brake I noticed that the screw that is attrached to the parking brake which holds the foot brake down was missing. My question.... Could someone look at the parking brake and describe to me what kind of screw I need to replace it? I remember it had a nut on it as well. Thanks.....
Peace.... God Bless our brave soldiers defending our freedom. God Bless America!

I'm not the best person to answer this but here goes...I opened my tool kit that came with the Gear-Up and a size 10 open face wrench fit on the head of the bolt you lost and size 10 wrench fit on the nut also. The bolt maybe about 1'' long and less than 1/4'' wide...not sure if this half a$$ answer will help. Good-Luck

M6-1 by 30 mm long...ya that's what I was thinkin

No loctite!

Use a bolt with a nut. Once you have the bolt postioned to keep enough parking lever tesion to stop the bike from moving, use the nut to tighten the bolt againt the brake lever and secure it.

Periodically you need to adjust that nut in betwen adjustments of the rear and sidecar brakes.

The screw on our '05 Patrol dissapeared a while back, too. Metric capscrew the size someone already mentioned. Lock nut. Blue Locktite. If you still need a digital drop me a PM.

I tried both of those things, and still, it did not reach the stop.. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that my rig has a mind of it's own. Either that, or Ivan made it wrong.

Ya know....

My parking brake lever works OK, but for some reason folks will apparently " fiddle " with it whilst yer in some joint having a cup o' joe ... and yer bike will be free to attempt to limp towards lower ground one gear tooth at a time.

I only use the parking brake maybe a few times a year it seems, only when I'm on quite steep terrain. I've given up with trusting the parking brake though, and if the possibility is apparent that the rig will not hold on the gearbox then I pull a bungee through the U-joint and hooked to each side of the frame. This will hold the rig on any slope no matter what... BUT ..... one does NOT want to forget when one has done such a deed and attempt to ride off with the bungee still attached ....

I'm just sayin...
