Clutch - Couldn't find this anywhere

Postby GHGoodwin » Sat Jun 17, 2017 4:22 pm

Maybe I'm blind but I've looked and not seen this done. Clutch pack held in position by zip ties with inner and outer teeth aligned. They didn't shift around even after handling a bit. These plates came with the engine but my spare set would also align the inner splines and the expansion holes.

Test fit without springs. I was handling this by the tie ends and it stayed in position. I sealed the springs in the flywheel recesses and fully installed/removed this pack four times. Last time I just cut the ties and pulled them out.

Better throttle back that big brain of yours, Hal, or it's gonna overheat and lock-up. :D

If you mean the wood peeking out from underneath it's an almost 1.5" thick oak bench top. The cabinet is built on a 1.5" x 3" x 3/16th thick steel tube frame that the wheels are attached to. To support the top I made the ends of double thick 3/4" plywood and put a kind of door header made from 1.5" x 2" oak in the center between the sets of doors. Floor and sides are painted 3/4" ply with oak trim. Entire inside painted white gloss marine enamel so you can see stuff.

Oooh... that's very useful info. I need to pull the flywheel on my 650 and was hoping to keep the engine in the frame. I cannot remember if my 650 clutch will accomodate this method. Be great if it would. Checked my rebuild photos and no pics of clutch plates. DAMN!

Thanks for sharing.
