Rear brake caliper mounting threads stripped

Woe unto you that bought the first model year of a major remake, perhaps this section can help address any 2014 and later model Ural "imperfections". Here's a special section for folks with the latest rigs to discuss 2014 and later model-related topics such fuel injection, 3-wheel disc brakes, hydraulic steering dampers, spin-on oil filters and other anomalies that don't belong on true Russsian motorcycle ;-P We've gone from using big hammers and greasy wrenches to needing computers and Ouija boards in order to fix our rigs.
Forum rules
Please keep this section specific to issues pertaining to 2014 and later models such as fuel injection, sidecar and rear disc brakes and so forth. Ask general or non-2014 and later specific questions in the main Hammerin' & Wrenchin' section.

Rear brake caliper mounting threads stripped

Postby Gwtg » Fri May 04, 2018 8:01 am

I managed to strip the the threads to the mounting socket on the rear caliper. Is this a replaceable part or can I install an insert? I can’t find the actual model number to find Brembo parts.
Thanks, Greg

The Mounting bracket for the rear caliper is Ural part. We keep them in stock. Cost is around $50.00

Thanks, after I had some coffee and thought about it I realized the threads were on the mounting bracket and not the caliper. I might just install an insert since I might have it.
Thanks, Greg

Another victim :( - Tomcatfixer has already been thru all this - the bolts are too short so you only get about 3 turns, and that's it, it's not enough and won't take any too rough tightening up. I do mine up just "that much" with just one hand on the Allen key, and thread lock. No extra leverage!

The bolts are 11mm right? Because that is the size my kit does not have.
Thanks, Greg

The Caliper to mount bolts? They are 3/8" SAE, and there should be an allen key that size in your tool kit. The adjuster nut is 5/8".

Striped mine a few months ago. Easy to over torque. Get replacement plate and slide/bolts; they're reasonably priced from Gene or Heindl.

5/8 mounting? I don’t think we are talking about the same thing. I’m looking to save $50 if I safely can. If thread inserts are good enough for Chad then they should be safe. He must have put them to the test at the CRAP this weekend.

I just read TCF’s thread and it answered all my questions. The engineering solution is above my pay grade (I do my best but try to recognize my limitations) so I am ordering a new plate from Heindl since they were astute enough to answer this thread and take Mr Wazzock’s advice and tighten it with an Allen wrench, Blue loctite and perhaps a little nail polish mark on the bolt/cylinder to keep an eye on it. Thanks everyone who chimes in.
Thanks, Greg
