How to make a 2017 tachometer functional.

Woe unto you that bought the first model year of a major remake, perhaps this section can help address any 2014 and later model Ural "imperfections". Here's a special section for folks with the latest rigs to discuss 2014 and later model-related topics such fuel injection, 3-wheel disc brakes, hydraulic steering dampers, spin-on oil filters and other anomalies that don't belong on true Russsian motorcycle ;-P We've gone from using big hammers and greasy wrenches to needing computers and Ouija boards in order to fix our rigs.
Forum rules
Please keep this section specific to issues pertaining to 2014 and later models such as fuel injection, sidecar and rear disc brakes and so forth. Ask general or non-2014 and later specific questions in the main Hammerin' & Wrenchin' section.

How to make a 2017 tachometer functional.

Postby Burt1713 » Mon Sep 04, 2017 11:18 am

First of all this is what I did to make my tachometer function, it works on my bike but proceed at your own risk.

The first thing I did was disconnect the tachometer wire from the ECU feed wire.

The tachometer input wire is yellow on the gauge side of the connector.

I then connected the yellow tachometer input wire to the left coil grey with white stripe primary wire.

At this point the tachometer will function, but will read half of the actual RPM. To correct this you will need to turn the key on, but not start the bike. With the key on Press and hold both the mode and reset buttons on the speedometer for 2 seconds. This will bring up the 12/24 hour setting for the clock. Press mode multiple times until the LCD screen reads "RPM SP1r1P" you will need to change this with the reset button to read "RPM SP2r1P' as shown in the picture below.

At this point turn the key off and you are done.

Great, bookmarked! I'll do this next weekend, eating it's a nasty habit because I have to work to support it.

Do I understand you right, that now you have a rev meter on the efi rigs, where the km total used to be on our old Babutschkas?

It has the standard odometer
Two trip odometers
A clock
Voltmeter
And a tachometer among other things
You just have to keep pressing a mode button to cycle through them all

How difficult was this for those who did it? Do you need to cycle to get to rpm at each start up?

Maybe Ural has fixed this issue. When did you get your bike?
