The original Euro accessory socket is far more reliable and practical for motorcycle use.

Concur. Cigarette lighter electrical plugs have only three points of contact:

Just M2C, never had any problem with 'em and been using 'em for years. Need to be clean tho, for good electrical contact.

As for 'falling out', nope never happened BUT if necessary will pull out cleanly if e.g. cable is snatched wihout breaking itself the wire or the socket.

But in the past I have also used 1/4" jack plugs, but nowadays things like USB charger adapters are built for cigar lighter sockets. So I seem to be back to cigar lighter sockets again.

The Euro socket may be functionally superior, but everything readily available uses the lighter plug, and if one uses an adapter its advantages are lost. Naturally one could modify their accessory to use the Euro socket, but at that point one could choose from many other connectors.
Personally I rarely use it, and plan on getting an adapter for those few occasions, but changing to a lighter socket might happen at some point.

Really it's likely to have a USB plug in it, except when sitting charging. Will use the cig plug adaptor for the trickle charger.

Interestingly my X10 scooter has hoth, a USB socket AND a cigar lighter socket. These are factory standard fitments. Covering all bases! :D

I added a cigarette lighter socket in addition to the euro style, mainly for my air pump. Best of both worlds eh?

Chinese sellers on Ebay supply a combined usb/fag lighter waterproof assembly complete with handlebar clamp , very cheaply. This is ideal for fixing to the top frame rail of any Ural/dnepr and makes a useful addition.

BTW. Mr.Wassock, have we met? I have a feeling we bumped into each other at a FWE rally a couple of years ago. I was on a Dnepr but you were on a Jap solo. Possibilities anyway

Strange??? The rider definitely had an injected Urinal, and there were not many about then ( probably still aren't). Twould be about 18months ago.

Which is the top frame rail you mention? Can you offer a pic? I have that combo coming (in the next 6-10 weeks ;) )

I agree that the powerlet is superior to a US cigarette socket, however almost all the accessories I need to power are US cigarette lighter based. Rather than convert them all to powerlet, I use one of these adapters. Usually I have a small USB adapter installed so my wife can charge her phone but I also have a small "trouble" light and a small air pump.
