My Cyron headlight is also voltage sensitive: it dims a bit with each turn signal flash. It hasn't really been a concern over the last two years of using it. I'm currently awaiting some female H4 connectors, so that I can convert my two Urals' harnesses, then I'll try out the Auxbeam bulbs I ordered. I'm hoping to be pleasantly delighted by the Auxbeam.

Mike,
Just an FYI, Santa got his present today, thanks again! Probably won't get to play with it until after Christmas so will use Rudolph again. This is my busy time, and then I spend about 6 hours on Christmas Day visiting children in the Phoenix Children's Hospital. Wears out this 75 year old, out of shape, old guy.

Well, I had a break today and pulled the headlight out to see what I needed to do to convert to an H4 plug, surprise it was already an H4-good news! Apparently the late year (November) 2014 GU had the H4 change. Bad news the headlight is a sealed beam light so I need to find a different reflector/lens. Any suggestions? Found this one online for a decent price but want to use one that works well with my gifted Auxbeam LED bulb.

That will work, but not sure about it's quality and light pattern. The Hella and Cibie cost more, but are a sure bet.

Thanks - interesting, looking at the Cibie and the IPCW glass pattern looks the same but not quite. For the price I may try the IPCW and return if not good. Of course return here to report..

O-oh yes.

Image for Hella or Cibie.

I've got a Wipac unit in mine, one reason is better for UK light pattern (was described as "UK headlight conversion"), but also I'd found out beforehand that the bike's stock unit is a sealed one, and I want a replaceable bulb for if/when it blows, also, can be upgraded, I currently have a Philips X-treme Vision in there.

The IPCW from Amazon arrived today, very fast shipping, the light housing even came with the rubber bulb seal like in the CIBIE photos. Removed the old seal beam and installed the H4 LED and the new light housing. Amazing everything fit with zero hassle an honest plug and play. For those who want to use a lens protector the lens protrudes about 1/4 inch. Light is much brighter and pattern seems good, and easier to be seen by cages during the day. I will need to go for a night ride to check further. However night riding only happens when I get caught out on snipe hunts! Photos both on low beam.

I just wanted to add to this thread. I installed an Auxbeam in my M70 and I like the light but it doesn't really fit. The heat sink hits the speedometer. I filed a bevel on the top rear edge and got the bottom of the headlight to close most of the way. Since I have 2 of these lamps, I will probably file off more when it warms up some. Hey, it works right now, so I'm gonna fake it for the time being.
I may not be good, but I'm slow.

That's interesting, it fits fine in my M70 with the electronic speedo with room to spare, and my in Patrol that I converted to a Retro headlight with analog speedo . I did have to bend some connectors on the Ignition switch to make room on the Patrol. It has the older style headlight rim with the brow which is a little deeper than the plain headlight rim on my M70, maybe thats the difference.

Thank you Barry,
Since you said that it fits yours, I rechecked mine. I was hitting the speedo but only the front speedo light tube. Since I still have another light tube in the rear of the speedo, I can bend this one if I have to. For now, I just tightened the headlight mount screw down.
It is interesting you had interference with the ignition switch connectors. My heat sink is widest vertically and misses the connectors easily.

Nick,
Since the Retro headlight on my Patrol is a mix bag of oddball 2nd's I got from IMWA, it's probably a little different than a OE Retro. On my 2018 M70, the new electronic speedo and new style ignition switch take up far less room.

So, .... a question: I have a 2016 Gear Up, with a Hella E Code H4 reflector. Will the Auxbeam H4 bulb actually fit? Is there enough room behind the reflector for the protruding back of the Auxbeam bulb, or does the bulb hit up against the back of the headlight bucket?

I wouldn't guarantee it, but I would say it should fit. The Retro and M70 have a much more crowded bucket than their more popular brethren.

So... I got the Auxbeam H4 bulb (actually 2 bulbs: don’t seem to be able to get just one) from Amazon ($32.99), and installed it in the Hella E Code reflector I had previously put on my 2016 Ural GU. There was just enough room, but none extra, as the Auxbeam bulb sticks out the back of the reflector quite a bit.

Here are pix of light patterns with a Hella H4 60/55 w Halogen bulb, and with the Auxbeam. Notice that the Auxbeam light is noticeably whiter, with a clear well-defined cut-off on the left side of the low beam.

The last two photos are of the Auxbeam low and high beam shining on my garage door with the light actually installed on the bike. Notice that the high beam pattern actually fills in quite well, and doesn’t appear as fragmented as in the photos of the beam projected on a near-by wall. The overall effect is that it is much brighter.

The final verdict? It’s a keeper!
