Were the mufflers that were too loud screaming eagle?

I don't know, they where from an exhaust system of unknown origin I bought at a farm auction.
I still have them, they're a direct bolt on for a Gear Up or Patrol, maybe even a Tourist, $100 plus shipping if anyone wants them.

I will add that I made this modification probably 6-7 years, and at least 60k Kilos ago. I only posted it up because it's such a simple mod I think most people would overlook. If anyone does it, let us know how it works out for you.

Hey JB

We had water issues with the bottom feed and converted ours to a top feed.

Here is our air box mod http://www.sovietsteeds.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=44220&p=550825#p550825

Almost 2 years and several downpours!!! and creek crossings :D

I only close the valve before deep water crossings and run it open the rest of the time.

Out of all the aircleaner setups I tried, I think my home brew aircleaner with cyclonic precleaner was the most waterproof. Any water ingested was ejected by the precleaner, and the paper filter element always stayed bone dry.

Barry, from what did you make that airbox? Did it start out as components from something else? It looks quite professional.

Barry, first, that design is truly superb on so many levels. Are you still selling intakes?

If not do you have a proven design for my 2000 Tourist that you would share?

Are the ends custom pieces you had molded or common Fernco plumbing couplings?

Lastly, what filter element did you use? Is it a standard element?

Thanks.

It was 100% built from scratch using bits of exhaust pipe, flat stock, and a couple of rubber plumbing fittings. The filter is a Ural Wolf/Dnepr/Trabant filter. Time and obligations don't allow me to make airboxes anymore.

I'll let the pictures tell the story.

Nice work Barry, Thanks for sharing that, if you had a thread on your build I'm not sure how I missed it, especially since I lurked on here For at least a couple of years before actually joining.
Once I opened it up, I'm actually quite happy with my old top feed air box. Aside from it being water unfriendly it actually works well with the exhaust and carb jetting that I'm running, it just needs a snorkel.

Thanks very much for posting that, Barry. Great winter therapy project.

Can you buy Trabant filters at NAPA?? I think I'll have to go take a look.

For those who don't know what a Trabant is... https://youtu.be/s5IKthNYhVY

They did a special on them on 60 minutes about 20 years ago.

I got a case of them from IMWA when they were scrapping out dead and damaged inventory. Mostly use them for a tractor and a shop vac.
