He was stationed in AK and it was the bike he rode as a soldier. If you want to count Uncle Sam as #1, then I guess he is the 2nd owner.

That is a beautiful bike. But I think that scabbard is for a M1 carbine, not a M1 Garand

That is a carbine in the scabbard.

I believe the scabbard was initially intended for a Thompson. But that could be a different scabbard.

You are right that is a carbine I missed the sling attachment. It is awful long for that scabbard though.

741 - 841 was the shaft drive, across the frame V-twin.

Ok, now that is one cool looking bike. Yes, given the opportunity I would want one, after I purchased my Willys Jeep.

That is one of the nicest military Indians I've seen. Those are way rarer than the HD 45. As luck would have it, a lot of the Indians never made it to battle, ended up on the bottom of the ocean on the way over! Ever wonder why you rarely see one in the old news reels? That has a lot to do with it. The 500cc bike was also at a major disadvantage to the HD. Indian gave the military what they asked for HD gave them what they had and ended up really wanting. Still a great very forgiving bike!
